Life Lately | Labor Day Weekend, Hurricane Irma & 21 Day Fix

Y’all, I can’t believe I haven’t posted in two weeks. For shame! I tell you what, once Labor Day weekend hit, I was already behind and then the hurricane known best as #irmagerd had such a wishy-washy forecast and for too many days that forecast had her coming directly at Charleston, SC. I admit I panicked a little bit. I got my water and wine stocked up early (never a bad idea), beefed up our board game collection and I may or may not have picked up way too many boxes of something I pretty much never buy – Pop Tarts. (Hey, I heard it was like the supreme hurricane food…and whatever I can do to keep the kiddos happy.) Anyway, due to school closures and Boeing suspending operations, I was home with my kids Friday through Tuesday. It was a looong weekend, but we made the most of it. I got a lot of household stuff done, we had a few fun evenings with friends, watched movies and played games with the kids and I even got to work on a painting.

Overall, our storm wasn’t too bad, though the lower-lying parts of Charleston, i.e. downtown, had some flooding. By the time Irma got to us, she was a tropical storm. Definitely a lot of rain, and quite a few good, hard gusts of wind. We only lost power for a couple of hours. I am sending prayers though to those that were hit hard or greatly affected by any of it…as well as continuing to pray for the Hurricane Harvey victims and their ongoing situation.

I tell you, after this past weekend, I am DONE with drinking. Nothing like a good ol’ hurricane weekend to take you over the edge and make you want to take a break. In comes the 21 Day Fix. I tried this earlier this year, but then I got sick on my second week and I never really went back into it full force. However, I am in need of a good detox, and Punta Cana is just around the corner. I’m not doing the workouts, however, as I’m sticking to my gym, running and barre schedule, but they are always there on days I miss my normal gym sesh or barre class. Here is my first week’s menu plan. It is very repetitive and boring, but it’s easier for me this way. I do know some things I can trade out in the event I just don’t feel like eating the “planned” meal.

The pending Irma arrival gave us some nice, cooler weather, so I took Farrah on a couple of bike rides…

And lastly, I jumped on the micellar water bandwagon and so far I really like it. My face seemed to be breaking out a bit in the last few months, which is abnormal for me, and I’ve definitely noticed an improvement since incorporating this over the last couple of weeks. Highly recommend and it’s very affordable!

  1. I need to jump on the micellar bandwagon, too. I have been breaking out like crazy this summer, and using more makeup to cover it up is turning into a vicious circle. So glad you’re family did well through the storm! Farrah’s tricycle is the cutest 🙂
