Our Home | Porch Updates

I don’t know about you, but I am so eager for spring to be here for good. We’re starting to get some warmer weather teases, so I know it’s getting close. I started fixing up our porch areas – they needed a good cleaning after winter. I finally bit the bullet and bought the ridiculously expensive replacement cushions for my white wicker couches on the screened porch (they are the exact couches on the website I ordered from) only to find out that my love seat must have been a custom-made one because the standard cushions for the love seat on the website didn’t fit mine. So I was basically stuck with non-returnable cushions and no couch to fit them. So I had to order the love seat (sans cushions) from the same website, but it won’t be here until sometime in April – so those cushions are just sitting in their huge box waiting. I was less than pleased, but I’m over it at this point. Here are the new cushions on the sofa though – so you have an idea. I was so glad to finally have new, clean cushions. I will update when I get the new couch and have everything set up in there.

Thank God I didn’t throw away the old cushions before fitting the new ones, so I still have my other love seat, but I’ve had to put it on the front porch (it can’t go on the back deck because it’s real wicker and will get ruined with rain, etc.) So for now, I have to live with the old cushions, but I do like that I have a comfy couch to sit on out there because Farrah likes to ride her scooter, bike and electric Cooper Mini out there and we will be doing much more of that as the weather continues to get nicer.

You can see why I was ready to get new cushions, right? These will do OK out here. The good thing is that I can still run them through the wash and it does help a lot. And out here they won’t get as dirty as on the screened porch when we were always using them (and the dog too.) That coffee table I just can’t seem to bring myself to get rid of…so I put it out here (gotta have somewhere to set the wine glass down, am I right?) I just love that basket and the quatrefoil detail. It does however need a paint job and I have procrastinated far too long on that. For now, we’ll just call it very shabby chic. 😉

I also got new cushions for the bistro chairs. They are from Target and are sold in a pair. You can find them here, with other color options. The large pillows were from Marshall’s Home Goods a while back and the smaller pillows were from Kohl’s a few years back. The two big wreaths are from Kohl’s and the small one on the front door is from Target.

We do have a lot to do this spring to freshen up our home’s exterior. We desperately need to power wash the house and concrete. We also need to put mulch in our flower bed and of course add some potted plants again. That is all definitely on the to-do list. I would really love eventually for my husband to add a porch railing (linking the columns together) like he did at our old house. He encased the existing columns in wood and made them look nice and custom. I think that is the only thing that will keep them from looking dingy like they do in the picture above. All the houses in our neighborhood have this problem with the columns. Plus, at Christmas I could wrap garland and lights around it like I did at our previous house (priorities.)

Anyway, that’s the update for now! Hope to keep improving on it. Are you getting your home ready for spring?
